Used Hot Tub - Guidelines For Buying

Some homeowners, wanting to save a bit of money, think about purchasing a used hot tub. But, the prices of new hot tubs have been coming down in recent years, so is buying a used hot tub really a good deal?

To answer that, when looking at a used hot tub it is especially important to compare the cost of purchasing a new unit against the coast of buying a used one and fixing it up the way that you want. In order to make the transaction worthwhile, the price of the used hot tub has to be greatly discounted before even considering such a deal.

Guidelines To Buying A Used Hot Tub

-One of the best places to find a used hot tub is from a dealer who sells new hot tubs. The hot tub may be one that has been returned by a customer and then refurbished. You will nearly always receive a warranty when buying from a dealer so you can have confidence that if something goes wrong you will either be able to return it or have it fixed under the warranty conditions.

-When buying a used hot tub, it is very important to have certain documentation. You will need these documents when you find yourself replacing hot tub parts. So, ask the owner for the original paperwork and instructions for the spa. If he does not have them, search the company's website to see if they have a manual online. If not, then you should probably pass on purchasing the hot tub.

-Be careful when buying a used hot tub from a private owner. Although the tub may be a perfectly good piece of equipment, there is little that you can do if you discover defects in it once you take ownership of it. So, you need to test it fully before paying for it. This means having the owner fill the hot tub with water and actually running it for a half hour or so until you are sure that the unit has no leaks and works as advertised.

-Obviously, if you notice any damage in the tub's shell, you have one of two choices. One, assuming that the damage is cosmetic in nature, you can ask for a deep discount on the selling price. Or, two, if the price is good and you know that you the cosmetic defects can be easily fixed, you can purchase it and simply replace the defective parts. When buying a used hot tub, the important thing is that it actually functions.

-A used hot tub does not mean a cheap hot tub. Make sure that the brand you buy is a good quality brand.

-If you travel a lot, check out the used hot tub price in the areas that you visit. Prices are not the same across the U.S. In certain areas of the country you can actually get the identical unit at a significantly discounted price over other areas.

After the Purchase

Install and run the hot tub as soon as you can after delivery - and while it is still under warranty. If there are any operational defects in the unit, odds are that they will show up in the first weeks of running it after installation. Run it continuously for at least a day.

If you procrastinate and wait until next Spring to install it, you may belatedly discover at that time that it doesn't work as planned. Unfortunately, by that time, the warranty may have expired.

To minimize the cost of buying a hot tub, you can build a diy hot tub that will not only save you money but will allow you to put in all the custom features you desire.
